SAWN FRAMES

After confronting our worst fears, steam bending and installing the steam bent White Oak frames turned out to be somewhat routine.

The forward sawn frames, not so much. Actually they were not difficult, but they were time consuming. Considerable more than installing the steam bent frames.

The first pair of sawn frames were concave, the next pair a mere foot and a half forward were convex. To complicate matters further the angle that rests aginst the hull was not a constant angle.

These frames started out on the band saw, followed by the thickness planer, sander, and last but not least the block plane, and spoke shave to create the angle.

Four of the six needed replacing and each one had its own personality. One dropped right into place, while another required several trips from the boat to the bench while finessing just the right angle.
